Armi Scarf – Free Knitting Pattern
I found myself wanting a slightly longer scarf – something I could wrap over my head to protect my ears when needed, or wear over a light spring coat as a small detail.
That's how the Armi scarf came to life. A simple, soft, and versatile piece that I now want to share with you.
Materials
For the Armi scarf you will need:
50 g of fingering weight yarn
25 g of lace weight yarn (such as silk mohair)
approx. 10 g of any fingering weight yarn for stripes
For my sample, I used Sandnes Garn Sunday and Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair.
The idea behind this scarf is that by adding a small amount of leftover yarn, you can make it slightly longer than a typical one-skein scarf. And we all have some leftover yarn hidden somewhere, don't we?
Needles & Construction
Needles: 3.75–4 mm
The scarf is worked holding two strands together (fingering + silk mohair), except for the stripes, which are worked with one strand of fingering weight yarn only for better contrast.
This also means you don't need to search for a perfectly matching mohair in your stash.
Construction Overview
The scarf is worked corner to corner.
You begin at one tip, increasing stitches until the widest point, then decrease back down to the opposite tip.
Stripes are worked in a contrasting color.
The yarns are carried along the edge, so you don't need to cut them. If the contrast feels too visible at the edge, you can cut the yarn and weave in the ends gradually over a few rows.
Increases and decreases are intentionally placed right after the first stitches as part of the edge structure.
