Uru

Uru is a lightweight, all-gender accessory that comes in kerchief and shawl sizes. The design was inspired by the way light and shade change in warm weather months–like evening sun landing on closed linen curtains, or iced tea breaking a sunbeam like a stained-glass window. Serena Qiu (ozuko) wanted to translate that impression into a highly wearable accessory that is easy to customise with each knitter’s personal sense of colour. It was also important to Serena to design something that minimises yarn waste. This pattern makes use of small quantities and half-skeins, plus you can keep knitting until you run out of yarn. **SIZES** 1 (2) **FINISHED MEASUREMENTS** Width: 37 (55)" / 94 (140) cm. Depth: 13 (20)" / 33 (51) cm. **MATERIALS** Yarn: Cotton Merino by Knitting for Olive (70% OCS certified organic cotton, 30% RWS certified Merino wool, 273 yds / 250 m – 50 g). MC1: 1 (2) balls in the colourway Ballerina. MC2: 1 (2) balls in the colourway Blueberry Ice Cream. CC: 1 (1) ball in the colourway Red Currant. Notions: Stitch marker. **GAUGE** 24 sts and 48 rows to 4" / 10 cm on US 4 / 3.5 mm needles in Uru Pattern, after blocking. **NOTES** Uru is constructed flat from the centre tip to the widest edge. After casting on, you will work repeats of the Uru st patt until stated depth, or until your knit reaches the desired size. The st patt is a 6-row repeat that uses either intarsia or slip-stitch colourwork per row so you can focus on one at a time. The repeats begin on the WS in order to hide increases and colour changes in an i-cord selvedge. All stitches are slipped purlwise.
