The Padma hat was inspired by blooming lotus flowers. Padma, meaning lotus in Sanskrit, symbolizes purity, enlightenment, beauty, and growth by blooming out of the mud. I thought it was a beautiful message - that beautiful things can come from rather “un-beautiful” places. The all over lace motif in this pattern creates a hat that is very light but still perfectly warm and comfortable to wear. This hat is worked entirely in the round, from the top down. This pattern is suited for any knitter that has knit lace before or is comfortable with reading a chart or round by round instructions. This pattern includes a charted version of the main lace pattern as well as instructions written out round-by-round. Sizes - One size - finished diameter is approximately 11" / 28cm and finished brim circumference is 21.5" / 54.6cm Yarn - Fingering weight yarn or lace weight yarn held double - Sample uses Cardiff Cashmere - Prime: 68% Cashmere, 32% Silk, 300m / 328yds per 25g ball. Colorway: 141 Zen. Approx. 600 yds total required - two strands held together throughout. - NOTE: if you be using fingering weight yarn, only use one strand - not two held together. - You may use any yarn you would like as long as you can meet the correct gauge with it, described below. - Yarn requirements include yarn needed for swatching. Needles - 3mm / US 2.5 circular needles for main fabric - 2.25mm / US 1 circular needles for brim. Gauge - 30 stitches and 39 rows in 4”/10cm in main fabric lace chart on page 4 (written out on page 5) work 2 repeats of the chart next to each other to measure gauge - Adjust needle size to obtain the correct gauge. Notions - removable stitch markers - tapestry needle - cable needle or follow my tutorial for cabling without one - it’s easier and faster! Link: https://www.instagram.com/p/DKUu7n7x98A/
