Call & Response

Call and response may be found in music, dance, cheers, and protests, among other places, when something is initiated and then imitated in an interactive way. The Call & Response Vest is worked in stripes, with the first half of each row worked in one color (the call), and the second half (response) mirrors the call in a contrasting color. In a literal twist: a cable at the front, the two colors switch order between stripes. The vest begins with a ribbed hem that may be worked with flat intarsia (tangy) or intarsia-in-the round (piquant)—both options are given. The body of the sample pullover is worked seamlessly from the ribbing up. While it appears to be worked in the round, it is actually worked as flat intarsia and open at the front, except for the cables. The edges are finished with stretchy i-cord that is worked as you go, so the finishing is minimal--mostly grafting the shoulders.
