Does building a cozy little cottage in a beautiful green valley, planting flowers, bushes and trees using only your imagination, a set of knitting needles and some yarn sound like fun to you? If your answer is yes, then **Join me for the Spring in the Valley Mystery Mittens KAL!** Let's create a pair of stranded mittens or fingerless gloves/mitts that are inspired by the lovely spring season. Join the [discussion in my group][1] for fun chit-chats and pattern support. The clues will be released on the following dates: Clue 1 Sunday, March 1st Clue 2 Thursday, March 5th Clue 3 Sunday, March 8th Clue 4 Thursday, March 12th Clue 5 Sunday, March 15th Clue 6 Thursday, March 19th Clue 7 Sunday, March 22nd I'd like to thank my fabulous testers: [Heli-keiju][2] and [Zwulli][3] for their help ♥♥♥ Before we begin, here are a few things you’ll need to gather. **Materials** 1. US Size 0 (2mm) set of dpns or circular needles (for Magic Loop method) 2. Fingering weight yarn 231y/50 g (211m/50g). You will need about 368y/80g total for mittens and about 260y/56g for mitts: Color 1 (dark green/trees/leaves) - 55y/12g Color 2 (light green/grass) - 106y/23g Color 3 (white or red, or color of choice/flowers) – 23y/5g Color 4 (brown/wood) - 69y/15g Color 5 (light gray/stone color) - 69y/15g Color 6 (black or dark gray) - 23y/5g Color 7 (light blue/sky) - 23y/5g Plus small amounts of colors of choice for embroidery 3. Tapestry needle (for duplicate stitch/embroidery) 4. Beads (optional) 26 size 6 yellow or light orange beads + a small hook for placing beads **Gauge** 9 sts x 13 rows (in stranded colorwork knitting in the round) in 1” x 1” after blocking **Notes** • Sizes: The size of the mittens/mitts can be adjusted with yarn and needles. My recommendation would be: for S/M light fingering + 2mm needles, for M use fingering + 2.25/2.5 mm needles, for large use sport weight and 2.5/3 mm needles. • Stranded colorwork: Follow the charts from right to left. Catch longer floats using preferred method. • Duplicate stitch/embroidery: Some of the details are added by using duplicate stitch technique or embroidery. • Adding beads (optional): The pattern will have suggestions on where to use beads. • Construction: The mittens/mitts are knit in the round. The front of the mitten has more stitches than the palm side of the mitten (more notes on that in the instructions). The mittens have a sore thumb construction with the thumb gusset growing from the side of the mitten. Once the thumb gusset is finished, the thumb stitches are placed on a stitch holder or scrap yarn, and you finish the body of the mitten first. Lastly, the thumb stitches are placed back on needles and the thumb is completed.
