Home Place Mittens

This is the first pair of Selbu mittens I designed as the result of a challenge during a course on advanced Selbu mittens offered by Patricia Fortune of Knitography Farm. The elements include a nod to Norwegian design tradition with the eight-pointed star, and then shift to the waves of the Bay of Fundy, the apple green colour evoking the Annapolis Valley and the cuff design remembering my father’s rose garden. Bringing it all together, The Home Place is the title of a novella written by my mother. The Home Place Mittens are designed and knit following the Selbu mitten style and construction tradition. Suitable for knitters with some experience. Size: Adult S/M: length 28cm/11”, outer circumference 22 cm/8 3/4”. Adjust size by adjusting gauge. Yarn: Heavy fingering/light sport weight wool recommended. Sample shown uses Rauma Finull, 1 50g ball each of two contrasting colours, pattern colour (PC) and background colour (BC). Sample shown in White (400) and Apple Green (430). Tools: Sample knit on 2.5mm needles. Use needles that give the correct gauge for the size desired.
