Pocket Edition Scarf

Knit this cozy garter-stitch scarf in scraps to show off the geometric shaping, or go with the trendy beige and keep it subtler—whichever you like! I love the deep texture of garter stitch, and a moderately dense gauge helps this scarf keep shape and function over time. It’s warm, cozy, and crushable. You’ll need a long circular needle for this—the kind used for big shawls and sweaters—to accommodate increasing stitch counts. This pattern is written for two sizes; if you’re very tall, you can add length by casting on additional stitches at 16sts/4". The ideal length puts the pockets at about your low waist/where they’d be on a casual jacket, and the small size should work for people up to about 5'8". **Materials**: * 170g/420yds (small) 250g/620 (large) yards of Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok. * 1 48" circular needle in US3/3.25mm, or size needed for gauge * Tapestry needle for weaving in ends * crochet hook for cast-on, 2.25mm or size suited to yarn **Gauge:** Gauge is 16 sts and 40 rows over 4”/10cm, in unblocked garter stitch, worked flat and blocked. Please be sure to check your gauge. **Measurements:** The small/medium scarf measures about 56"/1.42m long by 6"/15.2cm wide. The medium/large scarf measures 64"/1.62m long by 6"/15.2cm wide. You can add pattern repeats to make the scarf wider (and very slightly longer). **Notes:** Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok Worsted works *really* well for this scarf—it’s a two-ply medium-soft wool and it’s got a lot of loft, which keeps it from having too much vertical stretch and allows it to bounce back into shape. If you do substitute, or spin for the project, this lofty/bounceback is important to good results. While I used scraps for the sample shown, this scarf can be knit in one skein of Woolstok 150 plus 1-2 50g skeins of Woolstok Worsted, or one skein of Woolstok 150 and a mini-skein set. The latter combination has enough yardage to knit both the small/medium scarf and a small/medium Pocket Edition Hat.
