Ribbons and Remnants Shawl

The urge to save and stash comes naturally to us. If you have a creative heart, you probably also have at least one box, basket, or cupboard full of scraps. Little lengths of velvet ribbon, a few grams of soft yarn, the smallest silk snippets, a strip of cotton in an adorable print – they’re all precious and too full of promise to throw away. We keep them for a hundred hypothetical reasons: patchwork, tiny projects, holiday bunting, or a final flourish when wrapping a special gift. Sometimes we hold onto them as a way of holding on to a favourite memory, just knowing that some day they’ll find their way into the perfect project. That instinct to save and cherish grew into the Ribbon and Remnants Shawl. Knit from fingering weight yarn scraps or mini skeins held double with a strand of silk mohair, this striped triangular shawl shimmers with softness. Gentle garter-stitch ribbons of colour flow across the shoulders, blended and softened by the airy mohair halo. Playful bobbles add texture at the border, which is finished with a fluttering picot bind-off.
