Emotion shawl

**ABOUT THE PATTERN** This shawl was designed especially for a collaborative Advent box with Madejasur, a beautiful Chilean yarn brand. The theme of the box was emotions, so we chose five feelings that often accompany us during the holiday season: love, calm, joy, nostalgia, and hope. I knit this shawl using a main color and mohair to represent calm, and incorporated different lace stitches to reflect how delicate and nuanced that feeling can be. In certain sections, I added pops of color to represent the other emotions. Each part of the shawl holds a different emotional weight. The idea is that you, too, can fill your shawl with meaning— infusing it with the emotions the holidays bring to you. You can follow my approach and focus on one main feeling, or blend in several as you knit your way through your own emotional journey. **Shawl Construction:** The construction begins at the center of the shawl, starting with the back panel. These stitches are then placed on hold. Next, stitches are picked up to work the left wing, decreasing as you go. Then, stitches are picked up for the right wing. Finally, stitches are picked up along the edge, and the back panel stitches are resumed to complete the piece. **SIZES** One size **FINISHED SHAWL** A. Width at center: 37 cm / 14.75” approx. B. Total Length: 180 cm / 72” approx. **GAUGE** 21 stitches x 28 rows = 10 cm / 4” Measured over stockinette stitch after blocking, worked flat with main needles and main color. NEEDLES AND CABLES • Main needles: 3.75 mm / US5, or the size needed to obtain the gauge. • Cable lengths: 60 cm / 24”. NOTIONS Crochet hook for beading 0.6 mm / Row counter (recommended) / 2 Stitches marker / Tapestry needle. YARNS FINGERING WEIGHT Note: This project combines a lace and (mohair in my case) with fingering yarn. For the fingering, I used several leftovers, but you can also knit it all in one color or with fewer colors. Just make sure to add up the total amount of yarn needed so you don’t run out. ACERCA DEL PATRÓN Este chal fue diseñado especialmente para una caja colaborativa de Adviento junto a Madejasur, una hermosa marca chilena de hilados. El tema de la caja eran las emociones, así que elegimos cinco sentimientos que suelen acompañarnos durante la temporada navideña: amor, calma, alegría, nostalgia y esperanza. Tejí este chal usando un color principal que representa la calma. En algunas secciones agregué toques de color para representar las otras emociones. Cada parte del chal tiene un peso emocional distinto. La idea es que tú también puedas llenar tu chal de significado, infundiéndolo con las emociones que esta época despierta en ti. Puedes seguir mi propuesta y enfocarte en un sentimiento principal, o mezclar varios mientras avanzas en tu propio viaje emocional tejido. Construcción del chal: La construcción comienza en el centro del chal, partiendo por el panel trasero. Estos puntos luego se dejan en espera. Después, se levantan puntos para trabajar el ala izquierda, disminuyendo a medida que avanzas. Luego, se levantan puntos para el ala derecha. Finalmente, se levantan puntos a lo largo del borde y se retoman los puntos del panel trasero para completar la pieza. TALLA Única MEDIDAS CHAL A. Ancho al centro: 37 cm / 14.75” aprox. B. HILADOS GROSOR: FINGERING Nota: En este proyecto se trabaja con un hilado de encaje (mohair, en mi caso) y con merino fingering. Para el merino utilicé varios restos, pero también puedes tejerlo todo en un solo color o con menos colores. Solo asegúrate de sumar la cantidad total de hilado necesario para no quedarte corta.
