This beginner friendly skirt pattern is worked top down and includes an elastic waistband, and a flowy skirt to create a fit and flare look. It's a fun and classic silhouette that can be sporty and casual, or flirty and fancy. Perfect for any body and any skill level. Sizes This pattern is written to meet the finished measurements in the chart provided at the end of the pattern, with finished waist sizes: 22, 26, 30 (34, 38, 42, 46)[50, 54, 58]"/56, 67, 77 (87, 97, 107, 117)[127, 138, 148]cm. The sample was knit to about 1"/2.5cm of negative ease (smaller than my body measurements) at my waist.. Since this waist is intended to be fitted, choose a size that is between 2"/5cm of negative and 2"/5cm of positive ease at the waist. Remember that the internal elastic should be measured to fit your waist with neutral or negative ease. When choosing a size, pick the size that has the appropriate ease at your waist. Then you can always adjust your hip measurements by working more or fewer increases as needed! Materials You will need eleven markers, one BOR marker, waste yarn, 1"woven elastic to fit your waist measurement, darning needle, scissors, measuring tape, and your super amazing body. Techniques You will need to know how to pick up stitches, knit in the round, purl, increase, decrease, hold stitches, create short-rows using German short rows, work an i-cord bind-off, block, weave in ends, and have fun. Suggested Yarn Sunfish from thelittlewolfknits: 75/25 superwash merino/nylon, fingering weight 4-ply, 463yd/424m per 100g. The sample used two skeins of Villa on Sunfish. Any light fingering should work – just make sure to adjust to get gauge. -Alternatives include: o Knit Picks Stroll o Cascade Yarns Heritage Suggested Needles Main Needle: US 5 (3.75mm) circular needle I-Cord Needle: US 4 (3.5mm) circular needle But use whatever needle you need to achieve gauge! Color Suggestions Like I said, this pattern is perfect for any yarn, and can be made with a tonal or variegated AND it would make amazing scrappy project. Have random odds and ends lying around? Use them for a fun stripey version! Gauge 24 sts x 32 rows = 4”/10cm stockinette knit in the round and blocked with your main needle. When swatching, remember to cast on more stitches than you’re intending to measure so that you can get an accurate measurement (the end and beginning stitches tend to be looser). However, check your yardage, because several of these sizes barely dip into the last skein, so with the extra yardage allowance, and typically larger than 100g skeins, you might be able to get away with one less skein (especially if you plan to reuse your swatch). I was able to do so on my sample, however, if you don’t want to play yarn chicken - get the extra skein! Each additional 1"/2.5cm of length will require approximately an additional 41, 45, 49 (52, 56, 60, 63)[67, 71, 75]yds 38, 41, 45 (48, 51, 55, 58)[61, 65, 68]m for the smaller skirt option. This will require slightly more than this if you’re working at a larger amount of positive ease. For my sample starting with the second size and increasing to 40"/102cm of positive ease, I still used less than two skeins of yarn.
