Skew Skirt

The Skew Skirt is worked seamlessly from the top down in the round. The waistband is worked first, then folded and knitted down to create a casing with the elastic enclosed inside. The upper section is shaped with gradual increases, followed by short rows to create triangular panels at the front and back. An i-cord cast off completes this section, after which, stitches are picked back up for the main skirt section. The skirt is continued in the round, with regular increases placed along the front and back triangular points and more gradual increases worked at each side. The skirt is finished with an i-cord cast off. The pattern includes instructions for working the skirt in either a single colour or a striped version. **SIZING** The Skew Skirt is designed to fit with 0 - 5 cm of positive ease at the waist and sit just below the waist. Below are the recommended sizes to choose based on your body measurements. Size 1, 2, 3, 4 (5, 6, 7, 8) 9, 10, 11, 12 (13, 14, 15, 16). Designed to fit a waist circumference of: 55-60, 61-65, 66-71, 72-76 (77-82, 83-87, 88-93, 94-98) 99-104, 105-109, 110-115, 116-120 (121-125, 126-131, 132-136, 137-142) cm. Sandnes Garn Line (50g = 110m). 3, 4, 4, 4 (4, 5, 5, 5) 5, 6, 6, 6 (6, 7, 7, 7) balls of colour A. 3, 3, 3, 4 (4, 4, 4, 4) 5, 5, 5, 5 (6, 6, 6, 6) balls of colour B. Shown in colours Black (1099) and Slate (6080). Single colour version. Hand dyed Tencel DK (100g = 225m). 3, 3, 4, 4 (4, 4, 4, 5) 5, 5, 5, 6 (6, 6, 6, 7) skeins. The exact yarn I used is by an indie dyer that has now shut, but just search for a dyer in your area that stocks DK weight tencel with the same yardage. Note that this version is slightly sheer. If substituting yarn, choose something with a nice drape; linen, cotton, viscose, silk and tencel are all great options. Try to choose a DK weight yarn with a similar yardage to my suggested yarns; 220-225m per 100g. **NEEDLES & NOTIONS** 3.5mm circular needles, 60-100cm 3.75mm circular needles, 60-100cm 4mm circular needles, 80-150cm (or needle sizes needed to obtain gauge) Darning needle Locking stitch markers 20mm wide elastic (10cm longer than your waist circumference) Sewing needle and thread **GAUGE** In stocking stitch using 3.75mm needles. 22 stitches and 32 rows = 10cm after blocking. Note: The gauge swatch is worked using 3.75mm needles, which are used to knit the top triangular section of the skirt. The lower section of the skirt is worked using 4mm needles for better drape. You may also wish to knit a swatch using the larger needles to check that you are happy with the drape and opacity of the fabric for the main body of the skirt.
