Nottingham is a fancy pants hooded cowl (or ultra-mini cloak) inspired by the snazzy folks of the Middle Ages. (Basically, a more elaborate cousin of [Sherwood][1], with more everything.) Challenge level: Decidedly. Especially rows 11-13. (The rest of it is pretty straight forward, if that helps.) This is the most challenging of the series. - The pattern is fully written, with any charts also present in written form. - The oak leaves at the bottom edge really are quite tricky to knit in a few rows. An extra long and flexible circular needle is required (120cm+ if possible), or failing that, a second set of needles (though one tester did manage with a hair raising number of DPNs). - Sizing is adaptable - the depth and length of the hood can be adjusted to your preferred measurements, and the width and length of the cape are also customisable. - Yardage is variable due to the sizing, but roughly 500-1000m DK yarn for an adult. (Mine used 560m (700y) for a shoulder circumference of 100cm (40”), working extra rows to use the entirety of both skeins.) - The lovely team at Miss Babs have put together some very cute kits [here][2]. - Earthfaire also has lovely kits [here][3]. - Needles: Size 3.5mm (US size 4 - or to suit gauge) circular needles of 150cm/60” or 2 circular needles of 80cm/32”. A shorter length (60-80cm/24-42”) may be easier for the hood and neck. Also 3 DPNs for liripipe, 3.5mm (US size 4), and an embroidery needle for grafting a handful of stitches at the chin. Pictured hood used 400m (430y) of Miss Babs Yowza in Russet, and 170m/180y of Yowza Mini in Dark Chocolate), on 3.5mm (US size 4) needles. An additional 70m/80y of accent colour (Cygnus, in Yummy Toes) was used for BO & embellishments - this can be the same base or lighter. My project page can be found [here][4]. These designs are based on the delightful yet practical garment worn from the 1100 to 1400s in much of Europe, and are just as awesome today.
