Harebell Bandana

The dainty beauty of harebells dancing in the wind was the inspiration for this design. In my childhood their first appearance always meant the warmer days were here to stay ⚘ In Harebell Bandana, a sequence of simple textured stitch patterns keeps the knitting engaging. The bind-off is finished with playful nupps echoing the blooms of harebells, though they can be easily omitted if desired. The tips have **i-cord ties** that make it easy to wear Harebell as a hair accessory, as a neck bandana, or as a little knit collar. The **size is adjustable**: just repeat the stripe sequence to make the most of your yarn or create a larger, more generous shawl. Instructions are **both charted and written out**, with **videos** for tricky techniques provided. **Yarn** - 130yds / 120m of fingering weight yarn - OR two lace weight yarns held together, 130yds / 120m each (mohair + lace, Suri+ lace) - Choose a solid or tonal colorway to better show off stitch patterns - Sample bandana: [Tussock][1] from Purl Soho in Saffron Yellow (60% kid mohair, 40% silk; 328yds / 300m, 0.88oz / 25g) held together with [Spindle][2] from Purl Soho in Golden Meadow (80% merino, 10% cashmere, 10% silk, 625yds / 570m, 3.5oz / 100g) **Needles** - Choose needle sizes that help get the recommended gauge; sizes below are a suggestion - US 4 / 3.5mm needles for the body and ties - US 6 / 4mm needles for the ribbing - Straight or circular needles for the body and circulars or DPNs for the i-cord ties **Gauge** - 23 sts and 34 rows in 4” / 10cm in stockinette on smaller needles AND in half-twisted rib on larger needles, blocked - Can be changed to fit the desired yarn. This will affect the required yardage and the finished size of the bandana **Size** - Wingspan 16.5" / 42cm not including i-cord ties - Depth at the widest point 8.5" / 22cm - Ties 12" / 31cm - The size is adjustable: pattern stripes can be repeated any desired number of times to make a larger or a smaller piece. **Construction** - The bandana is knit flat with a classic triangular shawl shaping. - The piece has built-in i-cord edging. - The pattern features several stitch patterns: slipped stitches, stockinette, eyelets between double purl ridges, and half-twisted rib. You can increase/decrease the size of the bandana easily by changing the number of texture stripes before the ribbing. - The half-twisted rib is finished off with bind off that has built-in nupps. The i-cord edges flow seamlessly into i-cord ties. - The pattern has an alternative bind-off without nupps listed, as well as instructions for finishing a larger shawl without ties.
