This shawl is a tribute to the warmth, vibrancy, and fleeting beauty of a Californian summer. It was designed as **a two-skein project** to showcase magical Summer Solstice colorways by [A Verb For Keeping Warm][1] inspired by Monarch butterflies and California poppies. And so the piece captures the delicate balance of movement and stillness — of flutter and bloom. Worked in a V-shape that drapes effortlessly, the design features Estonian braids, simple lace, and seed stitch. The edges are polished with built-in i-cord that is continued in the i-cord bind off as well. **Instructions are both charted and written out.** This knit is an invitation to linger in the moment and let your stitches echo the gentle rhythms of summer ⚘ **Yarn** - Sample shawl: Rumor from A Verb For Keeping Warm (70% sw merino, 30% silk; 3.5oz / 100g, 438yds / 400m), color A - Horchata, color B - Bee's Knees, both from Summer Solstice Kit 2025. Get beautiful yarn from Verb [here][2]. - Or 438yds / 400m of fingering weight yarn for each color A and color B **Needles and Gauge** - US 8 / 5mm needles or the size needed to obtain gauge below - 24 sts and 36 rows in 4" / 10cm in Seed Stitch, unblocked - 19 sts and 25 rows in 4" / 10cm in Seed Stitch, blocked - Stitch patterns of this shawl require assertive blocking **Size** - Wingspan 79" / 200cm + tassels - Width 16.5" / 42cm - See Schematic image for more measurements **Construction** - The shawl is knit flat seamlessly in three sections using Seed Stitch, Estonian Braids, and Star Stitch. - The edges feature built-in i-cord that is continued in the i-cord bind off of Section 1 as well. - Section 1 creates the long panel on the right side of the future shawl. It is worked top down from the future V-neck opening and is knit straight along the left edge and with increases along the right edge. - Section 2 creates the shorter panel on the left side of the shawl. Stitches are picked up along the cast on edge of Section 1 and this part is worked straight from the bottom of the future V-neck opening up. - Finally, Section 3 continues from Section 2 and shapes the second tip of the shawl. Decreases along the left edge mirror the increase line created in Section 1.
