Variations Shawl

***Pattern available April 29th!*** Variations Shawl is a small Sport weight triangular shawl worked from one end to the other and shaped with increases along one edge. This rhythmic design features textural stripes of Interrupted Garter stitch worked with two differing yarns in each section. Variations Shawl is finished with a border edge of Garter stitch and Twisted Rib for a polished finishing touch. This design encourages color-play and exploration! The easy-to-remember stripe pattern is repeated from beginning to end, with color transitions occurring throughout. This pattern was designed using spun (marled) variegated yarns for the Main Colors, boosting the color-shift effect. (Handspun yarn would also be an excellent choice for the Main Colors.) Tonal or solid colors are suggested for the Contrast Colors. **Finished Size** Approximately 42” / 105 cm wingspan x 23” / 57.5 cm center drop, when oriented to wear **Suggested Needles & Notions** Needle size listed is a suggestion; use a size that will result in correct gauge. • US 6 / 4 mm, 32” / 80 cm circular needle • Removeable progress marker (optional) • Darning needle • Scissors • Blocking mat & pins **Gauge Information** Interrupted Garter stitch: 20 sts / 41 rows per 4” / 10 cm worked flat on US 6 / 4 mm needles (post-blocking) **Materials / Suggested Yarn** Spincycle Yarns - Dyed in the Wool Sport weight, 100% superwashed wool 200 yards per skein for Main Color(s) plus three tonal or solid Contrast Colors, Sport weight. **Requirements** Five colors of Sport weight yarn are suggested for this design. Main Color 1: 200 yards / 183 meters Main Color 2: 200 yards / 183 meters Contrast Color 1: 125 yards / 114 meters Contrast Color 2: 125 yards / 114 meters Contrast Color 3: 105 yards / 96 meters Sample 1 reflects the following: Spincycle Yarns – Dyed in the Wool “Eventide” and “First Light” for MC-1 & MC-2, de rerum natura – Ulysse “Tempete” for CC-1, “Iroise”z for CC-2 and “Cypress” for CC-3. In Part 2, there is a transition section where the Main Colors will both be used (MC-2 as the background and MC-1 as the foreground). For this reason, I suggest using different Main Colors if you are working in solid or tonal yarns.
