Lullaby

What is your favourite lullaby? My kids love when I sing Latvian lullabies. There are so many to choose from, just like in every tradition worldwide. Into this shawl there are lullabies knitted in. They gently dance like the rays of the Aurora or quietly whisper like seaside waves in the moonlight. This one-skein shawl knits up simply and rhythmically, with a traditionally beautiful outcome. It becomes especially unique through the yarn choice. Just like an ancient song, sung by mommy. More technical knitters will appreciate the architecture of this shawl — it starts at one corner as a big triangle yet ends on the other corner and meanwhile has turned into a crescent. By the time you need to start binding off, half of the lace edging is already done. This is a perfect project for that ball of very special yarn that has been sitting in your stash, waiting. This shawl yis written and works best with light and soft fingering weight yarn (450–600 m/100 g). Gradient yarn with slow colour changes showcases the pattern best, but solid colour or gently variegated yarn also can be used. As testers have proven, other weight yarns work just as well.
