Coffee Break

Coffee Break is a simple bandana cowl that is comfort knitting at its best. Relaxing and rhythmic garter stitch is paired with a simple yet interesting construction, creating a knitting experience that is both soothing and satisfying (just like a good afternoon coffee break!) Knit from the top-down, you start just as you would a shawl, working back and forth and beginning the shaping process. Then ends are joined together and piece is worked in the round just like a cowl, but with additional shaping to create the bandana-like look. The end result is a bandana cowl that not only makes a lovely little accessory (that stays nicely on your neck) but is also so versatile to knit, with a menu of different options you could consider. * It can work well with all different types of fiber in either solid or variegated colors (or consider doing stripes to use up stash yarn). * You can choose to knit it with a single-strand of yarn (the pattern calls for worsted-weight) or you can double-strand it with mohair. * Although it’s written for worsted-weight, you can easily adjust for different yarn-weights. > Pattern includes in-depth photo tutorials and tips about: > - How to ‘read your knitting’ for a relaxing experience > - How to work the joining process (step by step photos) > - How to make adjustments for a different gauge or a different fit > - How to try it on as you go PATTERN DETAILS: **Finished Measurements:** • Neck Opening: approx 19”/48 cm (but due to the shape, it stretches approx 3-4”/8-10 cm to fit over an average adult head) • Center Spine Depth: approx 10.5”/27 cm **Gauge:** 18 sts & 38 rows = 4”/10 cm in garter stitch* *Exact gauge is not critical but it might affect your finished measurements and yarn usage. **Yarn:** Approx 228 yds of worsted-weight yarn, shown in: • Red/brown version: Yak by Lang (70% merino, 30% yak; 50g = 131 yds), 2 balls, Sienna 62. • Gray version: Cotton+Merino by Juniper Moon Farm (70% cotton, 30% merino; 100g = 229 yds); 1 ball, Dove. Note: This pattern is easily adapted for different weight yarns. Visit my tips page (link in pattern) for more details. **Needles & Other Supplies:** • US 8/5 mm 24”/60 cm circ, or size needed to obtain gauge when working Garter st flat. • US 7/4.5 mm 24”/60 cm circ, or 1 needle size smaller than that used to obtain gauge*. • 3 stitch markers. • 1 locking marker. • Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
