Askell shawl

"Askell" is a narrow, asymmetrical shawl that is easy to wrap around the neck like a scarf and that has a lovely, streamlined design in its widest part. «Askell» means «wing» in Breton and was chosen in reference to the final shape of the shawl and the large feather-like pattern on the first part. CONSTRUCTION It is knitted starting from the right-hand side, growing rapidly to the maximum width, then decreasing at a slower pace to the final tip. SKILL LEVEL: 2/5 It has a medium level of difficulty. TECHNIQUES USED: Knitting back and forth, slipped-stitches, garter stitch, cables. FINISHED DIMENSIONS OF THE SHAWL (BLOCKED): Approx. 190 cm / 74.8’’ long and 47 cm / 18.5’’ at the widest part YARN ALBERTINE + BÉRÉNICE (held together): 3 balls of De Rerum Natura Albertine (90 % organic Arles Merino / 10 % mulberry silk, 218 yds (200 m) / 50 g) OR 470 m / 514 yds of « fingering » yarn. AND 3 balls of De Rerum Natura Bérénice (55% Super Kid Mohair, 25% silk, 10% organic Arles Merino; 210 m (230 yds) / 25 g) OR 430 m / 470 yds of « lace » yarn. *Note : The pattern was completed by most test knitters with just 2 balls of Bérénice. Depending on how you knit, you may only need the 3rd ball to knit the swatch.* The sample photographed has been made in Albertine color « avoine » held with Bérénice color « biche ». GAUGE 16 sts x 26 rows = 10 cm / 4’’ in Garter stitch with 5.5 mm / US 9 needles, blocked. *It is not crucial to get the exact gauge for this pattern, just make sure you like the fabric you get and adjust the needle size if necessary. C’est un châle étroit et asymétrique, facile à enrouler autour du cou, et qui présente un joli dessin épuré dans sa partie la plus large. Il se tricote en commençant par le côté droit, grandit ensuite rapidement jusqu’à la largeur maximale, puis décroit sur un rythme plus lent jusqu’à la pointe finale. ÉCHANTILLON : 16 m x 26 rgs = 10 cm tricoté au point mousse avec des aiguilles 5,5 mm et mesuré après blocage. Il n‘est pas crucial d‘obtenir l‘échantillon exact pour ce modèle, veillez simplement à ce que la tension obtenue vous plaise et ajustez la taille des aiguilles si besoin. Gardez à l‘esprit que des différences importantes d‘échantillon peuvent modifier les mesures finales et la quantité de fil nécessaire. AIGUILLES : Aiguilles 5,5 mm. Ce châle présente une largeur maximale de 47 cm et pourra donc être tricoté avec des aiguilles droites de 40 cm de longueur ou une aiguille circulaire utilisée en aller-retours selon vos préférences.
