Woodland Wreath

This is the first in a series of twelve linked patterns for a knitted wreath, to be published daily in December 2013. This pattern describes how to make a knitted cover for any size wreath; the patterns that follow it are for different leaves, creatures and flowers with which to smother your wreath. Make them all or just use a few and add other decorations of your choice. The wreath could also be turned into a Christmas wreath with the addition of seasonal decorations, perhaps from my Advent Garland patterns. Throughout the series, instructions are given for two sizes so you should be able to find decorations to suit your wreath. The two wreaths I made were 35 and 25 cm in diameter (14" and 10"). All the patterns use DK weight yarns; you will need lots of greens, some browns and a few other colours. Details of the yarns I used are in each pattern but you can use any yarn that is roughly the same weight. The wreath cover uses between 50 and 100g of yarn, depending on the size of your wreath.
