The dramatic swirl of stitches on this shawl is created by Fir Cone lace, a traditional pattern from the Shetland Islands that is simple to knit and easy to memorize. The triangle is knit from the top down, ending with a simple scalloped lace edging. Since that edging can be started at the end of any 10-row lace repeat, it is easy to customize the size. The shawl looks great in a variety of lace, fingering, and Shetland/sport/DK weight yarns. This design originally appeared in Wrap Style, published by Interweave Press in 2005. This version used needle size 6 (4 mm) and measured 54" wide x 24" deep and used the linked yarn. Pattern includes both written instructions and charts. Skill Level Intermediate Sample Shawl 75g (450 yds/412m) Nature's Palette Lace Silk & Wool, lace weight yarn (18 wpi), 30% silk/70% wool, Zinfandel color Wrap Style version used 458 yards of [Jaeger Cashmina][1] for a size of 54” (137cm) wide across top edge and 24” (61cm) long from center of top edge to bottom of point after blocking.
