*Birke* is an uncomplicated, asymmetrical shawl knitted with earthy tones – but why not play with the two contrast colours and make the most of all the silk mohair ends in your stash? **SIZE** One Size **FINISHED MEASUREMENTS** Width: 56.75" / 144 cm. Depth: 20.5" / 52 cm. **MATERIALS** Yarn: MC: 2 skeins of Shear by Harrisville Designs (100% CVM and Romedale, 320 yds / 293 m – 100 g), colourway Shear. CC1: 2 balls of Sensai by Ito (60% mohair, 40% silk, 262 yds / 240 m – 20 g), colourway 364 Top Dark Grey. CC2: 2 balls of Soft Silk Mohair by Knitting for Olive (70% mohair, 30% silk, 246 yds / 225 m – 25 g), colourway Linen. The shawl is worked holding these three yarns together. If you decide to use another yarn, you will need approx. 634 yds / 580 m of DK-weight yarn in MC and 470 yds / 430 m of lace-weight yarn in each CC. Needles: US 10.5 or 11 / 7 mm 32–40" / 80–100 cm circular needles. **GAUGE** 14 sts x 24 rows to 4" / 10 cm in Garter Stitch, after blocking. **NOTES** The size of this shawl is easily adjustable by knitting more or fewer rows, therefore you can actually use whatever yarns you wish – or have in your stash, just note that using different weights will mean the yardage needed and shawl size will also change. **CONSTRUCTION** This asymmetrical triangular shawl begins from the narrow tip and is knitted flat in Garter Stitch. A simple yarn over increase is made at the end of every other row. The shawl is bound off on the opposite edge with the I-Cord Bind-Off Method. Tassels are attached to each tip of the shawl.
