Hi Folks! Thanks for checking out the **Fallen** shawl! This leaf-shaped pattern comes in one size and is a great Autumn-themed project that can be draped as a shawl or worn s a scarf when folded down the middle. Comprised mostly of stockinette, this shawl gets its characteristic leaf shape by controlling the rate of increases & decreases along the outer mock i-cord edges. An optional stem is knit separately and grafted onto the finished leaf, giving the shawl a built-in loop to secure the other end when worn. **Note**: The written instructions may look intimidating, but they’re not. I promise. In a regular pattern, I’d be able to use instructions like, “Repeat Rows A through B 5 times.” However, each row in this pattern is unique, which prevents me from using instructions like that; hence, the instructions are lengthy. The actual construction of the shawl is very formulaic, so I am hoping that knitters will be able to make use of the intuition and/or charted instructions instead. Regardless, all three options are available. Here’s a quick summary of the pattern based on the original sample: **Dimensions**: -- Length (without stem): 50 inches (127 cm) -- Length (with stem): 56 inches (142 cm) -- Width (at widest point): 20 inches (51 cm) **Yarn Requirements**: -- 750 yards of DK-weight yarn -- Alternatively, you can also use 1500 yards of fingering-weight yarn held double **Samples Shown**: -- Yellow Sample: 3 skeins of The Loving Path Griffin DK in Persimmon (each 115 grams, 280 yards, DK-weight) -- Red Sample: 3 skeins of The Loving Path High Twist Sock in Last Goodbye (each 100 grams, 464 yards, light-fingering-weight held double) -- The skeins I used in the red, light-fingering sample were each a little more than 100 grams. The sample used closer to 1450 yards total. The 1500-yard recommendation above is a conservative estimate to ensure you don’t run out of yarn. **Needles**: -- 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles **Gauge**: -- 20 sts by 34 rows = 4 in by 4 in (10 cm by 10 cm) in stockinette stitch after washing and blocking -- Some deviation from this gauge is perfectly acceptable **Other Materials**: -- Cable needle (optional) -- Tapestry needle to weave in ends -- Scrap yarn for provisional cast-on -- Blocking materials **Instructions Included**: -- Written instructions (all rows) -- Charted instructions (all rows) -- 'Intuition' instructions, a 1-page description of the shawl's construction that I *hope* knitters can use to shortcut the written & charted instructions **Acknowledgements**: I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Fallen’s test knitters: Steph, Alana, & Amelia. Your feedback is very much appreciated, and you really helped refined this pattern into what it is today. Also, thanks to Debbie from The Loving Path Yarn for your yarn advice. I’m so glad I was finally able to make this pattern a reality, and I couldn’t have picked better yarn for it!
