Perseids Cardigan

It is named is named after the Perseids meteor showers that are especially visible in the Northern hemisphere every August. I was lucky enough to see them one night this past summer, which was definitely a bright spot in this otherwise challenging year! Perseids is knit from the top down, beginning with the back. Shoulder sts for each front piece are picked up from the back piece, and the front shoulders are shaped with short rows. Front and back sections are joined in one piece at the underarms. The front edging is knit as you go as part of the main piece. Sleeves sts are picked up from the body, and tops of the sleeves are shaped with short rows to give a 'modified drop shoulder', meaning the seam at the top of the sleeve does not fall as low on the upper arm as on a normal dropped shoulder. The sleeves are then worked in the round. The pattern includes two body styles: short and straight, or long and slightly A-line. The length from the underarm is 37 cm (15 inches) for the short version, and 53 cm (21 inches) for the long version. Since it is knit top down, it is also easy to modify to any other length; just keep in mind the amount of yarn required will be affected. The pattern is written with 'wrap and turn' short rows; however, any other short row method may be substituted if preferred. Perseids is intended to be worn with 5-8 inches (12-20 cm) of positive ease around the chest. The measurements given above are the circumference of the finished cardigan holding the front edges together.
