I named this scarf Milkweed because the stitches in this scarf remind me of the leaves on some of the milkweed plants growing on the land where we live in the Texas Hill Country. There are over 100 species of milkweed in North America and we have several different species that grow here and one grows as a vine on the fence while others grow low to the ground. Milkweed is crucial to the life cycle of the monarch butterflies and so it’s important to protect these plants and plant more if possible. The easy stitch pattern for the Milkweed scarf is a simple variation of the V stitch that forms an interesting open mesh. The scarf starts and ends with a few stitches and is crocheted side ways forming a shallow easy-to-wear crescent shape, using about 400 yards of fingering weight yarn. I used two skeins of the super soft Brooklyn Tweed Peerie (210 yards/50 grams) in the color “Treehouse”. Brooklyn Tweed Peerie comes in 45 different colors! Check this yarn out at brooklyntweed.com. I used a dark green color for my Milkweed, but the scarf will be beautiful in any color your choose. Milkweed is quick to crochet and is perfect for gifting! **Copyright CJ Brady Designs 2019**
