Cactus Garden Blanket

The Cactus Garden Blanket captures the spirit of the American southwest. Inspired by the landscapes of the San Juan mountains near Durango, Colorado and the beautiful canyonlands, mountains, and mesas of the Four Corners area of the United States. This blanket is worked in the mosaic crochet style, inspired by Tinna Thórudóttir Thorvaldsdóttir’s beautiful Havana Afghan (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/havana-afghan-cal) This blanket is designed for dk, worsted, or aran weight yarn that works well with a 5 mm hook. Lion Brand Mandala yarn and Caron Simply Soft yarn are used in the sample. Each row is worked in only one color of yarn. Odd rows are worked in Yarn A (Lion Brand Mandala self-striping yarn in Gnome and Peacock in the Large sample). These rows form the diamond pattern. Even rows are worked in Yarn B (Caron Simply Soft yarn in Black in the Large sample) and form the background or main color. The pattern is offered in 3 sizes: a Small afghan for a lap blanket or child’s blanket (30 in by 60 in, 76 cm by 152 cm), Medium (45 in by 60 in, 114 by 152 cm) and a Large afghan to fit a twin or single bed (60 in by 90 in, 152 cm by 229 cm). The small blanket requires 1,180 yards (1,080 m) of Yarn A, 844 yards (772 m) of Yarn B, and 107 yards (98 m) of yarn for the border. The medium blanket requires 2,213 yards (1,941 m) of Yarn A, 1,575 yards (1,440 m) of Yarn B, and 107 yards (98 m) of yarn for the border. The large blanket requires 3,540 yards (3,240 m) of Yarn A, 2,520 yards (2,304 m) of Yarn B, and 160 yards (146 m) for the border. The pattern 60 includes a bonus Mini size (23.5 by 23.5 inches, 60 by 60 cm). Requires 450 yards (411 m) of Yarn A and 300 yards (274 m) of Yarn B. This is an intermediate level pattern that requires chain, slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet stitches. US terms. US and metric measurements given.
