The Hand in Hand Blanket is named for the stitch pattern it celebrates: a forked cluster stitch that resembles rows of people holding hands. Each cluster begins where the previous one ends, sharing a stitch to create a continuous, interlinked design. The result is a dense, soft fabric with beautiful texture and subtle ridges that run the length of the blanket.
Instructions are included for 16 blanket sizes, making it easy to create the perfect fit for your space. Whether draped over a sofa or folded at the foot of a bed, it brings a sense of warmth and quiet comfort.
With its simple two-row repeat, this pattern offers a steady, rhythmic pace that’s well suited to mindful, meditative stitching. It’s the kind of project you can settle into and enjoy. Suitable for advanced beginners and beyond, the stitch pattern is easy to learn and quick to memorize.
**How This Blanket Is Made**
The blanket is worked lengthwise using a forked cluster stitch: each cluster shares a stitch with the next, forming a unique ridged texture along the fabric. Rows of forked cluster stitches are alternated with rows of single crochet, creating an easy, steady rhythm that’s relaxing to work.
With clearly written instructions, yarn substitution tips and recommendations, and a step-by-step photo tutorial for special stitches, you’ll feel confident bringing this luxurious blanket to life.

**Skill Level**
Advanced Beginner
**Concentration Level**
Little concentration required. Straightforward stitching means your hands can work on autopilot.
**Stitches Used**
Chain, single crochet, double crochet, forked cluster stitch (a type of double crochet decrease)
**Techniques Used**
Working in rows, working in same stitch as stitch just worked, ability to read a crochet stitch chart is not necessary but may be helpful
**Sizes**
Pattern includes instructions for 16 sizes: Lovey / Security / Cradle / Stroller / Baby / Receiving / Toddler / Crib / Swaddle / Lapghan / Small Throw / Large Throw / Twin / Full or Double / Queen / King
**Yarn**
Yardage requirements vary by size. A detailed chart with exact yardage for all 16 sizes is included within the pattern.
The sample shown here is the Crib size (38 x 53 in; 97 x 135 cm) and was made with an H/8/5mm crochet hook and Knit Picks/We Crochet Simply Wool Aran/Heavy Worsted (medium) weight wool yarn (193 yds/176.5 m; 3.5 oz/100 g per hank) in the color #27476 Wanda. The sample required 12 hanks of this yarn.
**Suggested Yarn Substitutes**
The crochet stitch used in this project creates a natural bias that is corrected during wet blocking. Wool yarns are strongly recommended for best results.
When substituting other fibers, results will vary. Cotton can be shaped to correct the bias to some extent, while acrylic does not respond to wet blocking in the same way—so a slight slant may remain, especially in larger sizes.
Crocheting a gauge swatch is recommended to evaluate the fabric and overall behavior before beginning.
**Recommended yarn substitutes:**
• Patons Classic Wool Worsted
• Plymouth Yarns Homestead
• King Cole Wool Aran
• Lion Brand Local Grown Wool
**Additional Tools And Materials**
Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle
Scissors
**Gauge**
Though exact gauge is not essential, for best appearance it should be close.
I used an H/8/5mm crochet hook. Select the hook size that gives the best appearance for your choice of yarn and your tension.
A significantly different gauge may require more or less yarn than listed.
