**Use code Summer2026 for a 30% discount! I hope you enjoy the change of seasons!** When I feel overwhelmed, I like to step outside, close my eyes and listen to the sound of leaves as they move with the wind. I can imagine the trees are whispering tales of their long lives to me. I hope you find many happy stories in the making and wearing of the Sylvan Tales Shawl. This beautiful crescent shaped shawl is knit top down and from the center out. The shawl is knit using the two-color brioche stitch and features an original design of branching leaves created using brioche increases, decreases and syncopation. *If you want to come hang out in my Ravelry [group][2] while knitting the shawl I think it'd be super fun to hang out with you!* *This pattern has been optimized for knitCompanion! You can find the optimized version available from the kCDesigns shop [here][3].* **Finished Size** 62 in/158 cm wingspan with a center depth of 18 in/46 cm   **Recommended Yarn** Two colors: MC: 437 yards / 400 meters / 100 g of Knerd String 4-ply sock yarn (100% Superwash Merino wool); CC: 400 yards/ 365 meters / 100 g of Knerd String 2-ply sock yarn (100% Superwash Merino wool) The leaves are worked in the main color. I recommend using the lighter color for the main color. Sample was made with Knerd String 4-ply sock in the Dandy, Lion colorway and Knerd String 2-ply sock in the Deep Woods colorway. **A note about the yarn** I used two different yarn bases for this shawl as I liked the way the slightly heavier contrast color framed the main color leaves. If using the same base for both colors, I recommend using a yarn similar to the 4-ply base to ensure sufficient yardage for your project.   **Needles** Size US 4 / 3.5 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge. A circular needle format is required for working two-color brioche.   **Notions** scissors, tapestry needle, stitch markers, cable-stitch holder or safety pin stitch marker   **Gauge** 16 sts and 32 rows = 4 in/10 cm in two-color brioche rib stitch after blocking. Gauge is not critical but may affect yardage/meterage used. **Skills Needed** knitting, purling, kfb; brioche stitches including brk, brp, sl1yo; brioche increases and decreases including brkyobrk, brkyobrp, brpyobrk, br4st inc, br8st inc, brLsl dec OR brLsl Uw dec, brRsl dec, brpLsl dec, brpRsl dec, brp4st dec The pattern includes links to video tutorials for the less common stitches. **Sources** For more information about the brioche stitch and terminology used in this pattern, visit Nancy Marchant’s site http://www.briochestitch.com. The unwrapped BrLsl decrease was created by Xandy Peters. *Pattern has been professionally tech edited and tested.* *If you reside within the state of Colorado, USA, you may be charged a sales tax of 4% of the purchase price.* [2]: https://www.ravelry.com/groups/deunyn-knits [3]: https://www.create2thrive.com/product-category/kcdesigns/julia-decker/
