These make a great scrap yarn project, as you'll only use less than 20g/30yds of each colour. I have used Aran/Worsted weight Cotton yarn, with a 4mm hook. Using a smaller than recommended hook size to keep stitches tight will give extra support for holding your pins. You can use any yarn type or weight you prefer, but it may effect your finished cupcake size. My cupcakes measure approximately 2”/5cm in diameter at the base and 3”/7.5cm in diameter at the widest point, and stands 3.5”/ 9cm tall. You can make these as play food too. Of course, you’ll leave out your pins and just replace the weight pouch with more stuffing. You could also sew on little beads for the 100’s and 1000’s sprinkles effect. You will need: Aran/Worsted weight Cotton yarn (or your preferred yarn) in a beige/cake colour, chosen paper casing colour, and a frosting colour. 4mm crochet hook, A stitch marker, Toy Stuffing (polyester fibre filling), A nylon stocking and dry rice to make a weight pouch (optional), Yarn needle, and Scissors.
