**The Observatory** *A simple hap, which combines an elegant curve with peaks formed from a beautiful Shetland lace motif.* **Yarn** Kate Davies Designs Milarrochy Tweed (70% Wool; 30% Mohair; 100m / 109yds per 25g ball) Cowslip x 4 balls **Needles and notions** Gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type / length. 2 locking stitch markers. Tapestry needle. **Gauge** 14 sts and 36 rows to 10cm / 4in over garter st using gauge size needle Gauge was achieved with 3.75mm / US 5 needle Gauge is not crucial in this pattern, but bear in mind that differences may significantly affect yarn quantities and finished size of hap. **Size** Finished width: 168cm / 66in Finished depth: 46cm / 18in **Pattern notes** The lace edging is created first, as one long strip. Stitches are then picked up from the centre of the lace edge, and each row is worked outwards, picking up stitches progressively along the long edge of the lace to create an elegant curved shape.
