Well color me surprised that LB Shawl in a Ball is considered worsted weight. It sure looks fingering/sport weight to me. Must be the fuzz. Anyway...
Working up quickly into a beautiful lightweight shawl, this is the second--and likely final--mod of my Movie Night Shawl. It has the same stacked shells design but this time with a top-down construction. I honestly couldn't decide whether it was more of a triangle shape or more of a crescent shape because it was a bit of both. Sadly, we don't seem to have a word for that.
Unlike most of my shawls, this design *technically* is a six-row repeat owing to the fact that the ends of the shawl increase as a two-row repeat and the center spine increases as a three-row repeat, but once you get going, it's still a fairly easy process to keep track of.
I wasn't sure how well Shawl in a Ball blocked, so I made a sample swatch with some leftover KP Bare Gloss I had on hand. It blocked very nicely, opening up quite a lot.
**A video tutorial of [this pattern][1] is available on YouTube, courtesy of FiberSpider. Many thanks to FiberSpider!**
**UPDATE:** I made a variation of this shawl that I called [Beachcomber][2]. The variation is... fiddly. If you follow my patterns, you know I have lots of 1-row and 2-row repeats because I LOVE SIMPLE, especially when it ends up looking nice. Seaside was a just a little fiddly, and I could deal with that. But Beachcomber? More fiddly than I care to actually write out as a written pattern. I do not have the patience... for now.
However, if you would like to try it, I put what I hope are some good notes on my project page as well as a couple of crudely drawn charts for the center increases and row end increases with pictures of the actual shawl that correspond to the charts. I do NOT know how much good I will be with troubleshooting help, so attempt this version at your own risk.
**UPDATE 2:** I've modded this again to make a squarey-crescent shawl which, in keeping with the beach theme, I've called [Beach Blanket][3]. It works exactly the same as Seaside, except it's got three "center spine" increases to give it its squarey shape. I highly recommend stitch markers to keep track of where these are. In every other way, this follows the pattern for Seaside, after the first 4 "setup" rows (detailed with pictures on my project page).
**Items made from my patterns are intended for personal use, sale, or world domination--as long as I get a parking space wherever I want once the world is yours.**
