-------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- **Little Tern** - by Tin Can Knits ============ -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- This is the sixth pattern from A Year of Techniques - a collection of 12 patterns to teach you new knitting skills. The Little Tern blanket is also available as a single pattern. *A versatile blanket that’s sized from baby to big, featuring textured and lace chevrons, like a little tern’s tail.* **Pattern Info** *Note: the lace and texture patterns are both written and charted* **Sizes** Small (Medium, Large, XL) Width: 58 (66.5, 75.5, 84.5) cm \[22¾ (26¼, 29¾, 33¼) in\] Length: 94.5 (99, 103.5, 117) cm \[37¼ (39, 40¾, 46) in\] **Yarn** Fyberspates Vivacious DK (DK weight; 100% superwash merino; 230m per 115g skein) Pebble Beach (814); 3 (4, 4, 5) x 115g skeins **Needles and Notions** 1 set 4.5mm \[US 7\] circular needles, 80cm \[32in\] long, or size needed to match tension Stitch markers Crochet hook and waste yarn for crochet provisional cast on or spare 4.5mm \[US 7\] circular needles, 80cm \[32in\] long for Judy’s Magic Cast On **Gauge** 18 sts and 27 rows to 10cm \[4in\] over blanket body pattern stitch pattern (chart A or B), after washing and blocking The 26-stitch wide edge lace panel (charts C and D) measures 14cm \[5½in\] wide, after washing and blocking **Pattern Notes** The blanket body is knitted first, starting from a provisional cast on. Once the body is complete, the first lace edge is worked as a knitted-on border. Finally, the second lace edge is worked as a knitted-on border over the stitches provisionally cast on. As the recommended yarn is hand-dyed, it is a good idea to work with 2 skeins at the same time throughout the body of the blanket, working 2 row stripes so that any small differences in dyelot are disguised. The two edging strips can be worked from a single skein of yarn for all but the largest size. To adjust the length of your blanket, work more or fewer rows in pattern, ending with a WS row 4, 8 or 12, keeping in mind that the blanket edging will add 14cm \[5½in\] to each end of the blanket, making a total 28cm \[11in\] additional length. The pattern is provided in both written and charted forms. **Video tutorials** [Crochet Provisional Cast On][5] [Judy's Magic Cast On as a provisional cast on][6] [Knitted-on edgings][7] [5]: https://www.masondixonknitting.com/year-techniques-provisionial-cast/ [6]: https://www.masondixonknitting.com/year-techniques-provisionial-cast/ [7]: https://www.masondixonknitting.com/year-techniques-knitted-edging/
