Notturno is the Italian word for a nocturne, a piece of evening music that is elegant and understated but still holds your attention.
This sweater is inspired by the colour combination of two Artisan Fibres yarns: the moody Mulberry Dusk and the bright Lilly Pilly. The body is simple in the darker shade, while the wide V-neck neckband, cuffs, and hem feature intricate colourwork bands in both colours.
It's a top-down seamless design with a set-in sleeve and a European shoulder worked simultaneously. Bust dart and waist shaping options are built in so you can tailor the fit. The colourwork bands use Ladderback jacquard to manage the floats and the construction teaches you Japanese short rows along with some interesting finishing techniques.
This is an intermediate pattern, designed in collaboration with Fruity Knitting for the Artisan Retreats in the Alps. A great project for building confidence with Ladderback jacquard in a real garment rather than just a swatch.

**Construction notes**: The sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down.
The back neckline is cast on first, with shoulder shaping worked using increases. Stitches are then picked up along the back shoulders to begin the front shoulders, each side worked separately with increases to shape the front neckline.
Sleeve stitches are picked up along the front shoulder edges and the yoke is worked flat in one piece, continuing to increase along the front neckline edges until all neckline stitches are established. At this point the work is joined in the round.
The body is worked in one piece to the hem, optional bust darts can be added using short rows for either a straight or waist shaped version.
At the hem, the second colour is introduced and a colourwork panel is worked.
The sleeves are picked up and worked separately in Stockinette st in the round to the cuffs, repeating the same colourwork hem pattern.
The neckband is picked up along the neckline and worked in the round following the colourwork pattern, with V-neck shaping.
