Corryvreckan

Corryvreckan (*Coire Bhreacain*) is the name of a whirlpool found off the west coast of Scotland. It’s said that Cailleach Bheur, Goddess of Winter, uses the whirlpool as her washing basin to clean her huge shawl. It takes three days to clean and, when done, she drapes the large swathe of white fabric over the land to dry. This shawl becomes the first snowfall of the year. **CONSTRUCTION** The sweater is worked from the top down. The back is worked and shaped with short rows. Stitches for the fronts are picked up along the shoulders and also worked with short rows to line the stripes up along the shoulder. The body and sleeves are worked in the round. Contrast colour (for bind-off at hem, sleeves, and collar): 50 m / 55 yds. **YARN** Sample was knit in Sandnes Garn Atlas (30% merino wool, 70% wool, 108 m / 118 yds per 50 g) in the colourways 1012, 1099, and 4219.
