**This pattern has not been tested or graded**
This slouchy boatneck top is designed to be worn either slightly off or on the shoulders. If you prefer a more traditional sweater look, instructions for a crewneck neckline, neckline ribbing, and sleeves have also been included. This top is worked bottom up with increases along the sides to create a slouchy fit. The ribbing is worked first in the round and then continuation of the body is worked in the round with increases before splitting the front and back for sleeves. Then, the rest of the top is worked flat and seamed at the shoulders. The top is meant to have 0-3in of negative ease in the waist and ~10-15in of positive ease in the body. More or less ease can be adjusted based on your preference. This top is very versatile and customizable and can be worn many different ways. Any fiber content, yarn weight, needle size, or gauge can be used to make this top since it is made to measure based on your own measurements!
You will receive 1 PDF of the pattern written in English, which also contains a link to a Google Sheet where you will input your measurements and gauge. The spreadsheet accompanies the written made to measure pattern.
The measurements and gauge used to achieve the short sleeve sample are also included in this pattern. The three quarter sleeve sample was not knit following the spreadsheet but pictured here for reference.
This pattern is most suitable for an advanced or intermediate beginner. No knitting terms will be explained in depth in this pattern. No advanced techniques are used in this pattern.
**Gauge and Sizes**
This is a made to measure pattern, so you will use your gauge to calculate the measurements. You will need to make a gauge swatch for both 1x1 ribbing and stockinette in each needle size. I would recommend sizing down 1-3mm needle sizes for the ribbing. Both samples have around 14in of positive ease and 1in of negative ease in the waist.
**Yarn**
Any yarn fiber or weight can be used for this top. Yarn estimates are 500-1500yds or 457-1372m. The amount of yarn will depend on your measurements and if you make any modifications like adding longer or shorter sleeves.
The three quarter sleeve sample used around 285g/10oz or 634yds/578m of Loops & Threads Impeccable Solid Yarn. This equates to around 143g/5oz or 317yds/289m of each color. This is a worsted weight acrylic yarn. Less yarn would be used for the same size with shorter sleeves and more yarn would be used for a larger size for a similar weight yarn. To note, this sample was not knit following the spreadsheet, but yarn estimates are provided to give you an idea of how much yarn you may need.
The short sleeve sample used around 9.2oz/261g or 583yds/532m total yarn. Yarns used are Loops & Threads Impeccable Solid Yarn for the majority with accent stripes of Caron Latte and Macchiato Cakes.
**Needles**
You will need 2 sets of needles. 1 set of circular needles for the body and 1 set of circular needles of the ribbing. An interchangeable needle set would work great for this. A 2nd set of needles will be needed when splitting the body for the sleeves.
Needle size will depend on the yarn and your gauge. I would recommend sizing down 1-3mm needle sizes for the ribbing. Recommended cable lengths are listed below.
* 16in/40cm circular needles for ribbing
* 16in/40cm OR 32in/80cm circular needles for body. You will have to use magic loop if using the 32in/80cm cable at the beginning of the body so I’ve also recommended a 16in/40cm cable if you do not want to use magic loop.
