Diamond Daze Cowl

The Diamond Daze Cowl is a fully reversible, double-sided cowl knitted from 2 balls of yarn. It can be worn with the top edge folded down, but when left unfolded the cowl covers the mouth and nose for those super cold wintry days. The cowl is wider at the base for the shoulders, and narrower at the top to snuggle the neck. The cowl is knitted in the round and the Main and Contrast Colours are reversed on the inside making it fully reversible. Its shape is achieved by changing needle sizes every 20 rounds. Cast on at the lower (shoulder) edge, knit towards the chin then continue knitting towards the shoulder again. Lastly the beginning and finishing edges are grafted together with Kitchener Stitch. Any Fingering or Light fingering weight yarn can be used. A Lace weight yarn with a slight halo (fluffiness) can also be used. The cowl is designed to be knitted from 2 single balls of yarn. 2 x 400m skeins will make a full length cowl of 9-10 pattern repeats, 30cm long. 2 x 300m balls will make a mid-length cowl of 7-8 pattern repeats, 23cm long. 2 x 200m balls will make a cowl of 5-6 pattern repeats, 16cm long. The full-length Blue/Green cowl (10 pattern repeats) was knitted from 100g balls of Zauberball 100 Pro and Fiori Sock yarn in colours Uberdosis (Overdose) and Shaded Spruce. The mid-length Navy/White cowl (8 pattern repeats) was knitted from single '50g' balls of Holst Garn Supersoft, in Indigo (55g) & Bleached White (45g). These Supersoft balls were generously sized at 55g and 52g respectively. The Red/Natural cowl (5.5 repeats long) was knitted from single 175m/25g balls each of Zealana Luxuria Air Laceweight, in Red & Natural. The cowl’s circumference is 55cm at the top edge and 75-80cm at the lower edge. Gauge: Knitted in the round, in colourwork, after blocking 3.5mm needles, 24sts = 10cm 2.5mm needles, 32 sts = 10cm Needles: 2.5mm, 2.75mm, 3mm, 3.25mm and 3.5mm needles suitable for knitting a 60cm tube in the round.
