Thank you!][1]** Wellamo is the goddess of water, lakes, and seas in Finnish mythology, and she controls storms and waves. She was especially respected by fishermen, as she represented abundance and good luck. If you caught sight of her, even from afar, while fishing, you were guaranteed a plentiful catch. Playful ocean waves were my inspiration for this design. It features an easy and addictive feather and fan lace pattern, creating beautiful waves throughout the sweater. It’s perfect for new sweater knitters, but also quick and fun for more experienced ones. Great design for hand-painted yarns that might not work as well in a simple Stockinette Stitch design. The wave pattern highlights the colors and transforms that beloved yarn into a work of art. For the sample, I’m using Malabrigo Rios in the Aquamarine colorway. **CONSTRUCTION NOTES** The sweater is knitted seamlessly from the top down, starting at the collar or the yoke. You cast on at the collar (or yoke), the yoke is knit, sleeve stitches are placed on hold or waste yarn, the body is completed, and then the sleeves are knit last. If you choose the structured collar, you will work the collar after completing the body. It is worked in the round, except for a few short rows after the collar. Short rows are used to raise the back neckline for a comfortable fit, but they are optional; you can skip them if you prefer. **SIZES** 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9) Finished bust circumference 34.2 (36, 40, 41.8, 44.8) (50.2, 53.3, 56.8, 60)" 87 (91.5, 102, 106, 114) (127.5, 135, 144, 152) cm Recommended ease: choose a size with up to 2" (5 cm) of negative ease to 6" (15 cm) of positive ease. See schematics with all finished measurements at the end of the pattern. **YARN** Worsted weight yarn, approximate amount: 750 (830, 950, 1050, 1200) (1300, 1400, 1500, 1600) yards 685 (760, 870, 960, 1100) (1190, 1280, 1370, 1465) meters Sample uses: Malabrigo Yarn Rios (100% Merino; 210 yards / 192 meters per 100 grams / 3.53 ounces), in colorway ‘Aquamarine’: 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) (7, 7, 8, 8) skeins. **NEEDLES** Needles suitable for working in the round (including small circumferences): Main Fabric: US 7 (4.5 mm) Ribbing: US 5 (3.75 mm) Needle size is suggested only, you will need to swatch to determine the needle size needed to achieve gauge. **GAUGE** 18 sts and 22 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Wave Lace stitch in the round (see Stitch Guide, page 12) after blocking, using Main Fabric needle. **NOTIONS** Stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn, and tapestry needle.
