Mermaid Socks

I called these Mermaid socks because the yarn I chose for them had the blues, greens, and purples that looked like they needed to be mermaid scales. After trying a few different pattern types, I settled on a simple diamond pattern made from knit and purl stitches.This is a very easy knit for those who have knit socks before, it’s a little more entertaining than knitting plain stockinette. I knit most of these socks in the car on road trips back and forth from RI to NH, USA. If you are new to socks, this might be a good intro to toe-up construction, or knitting two at a time on circular needles. The toe and heel are very straightforward, and the diamond pattern is simple to learn and memorize. I personally love knitting toe up two at a time, because I can try socks on as I go (or badger family members to try them on), and I don’t have to remember how many rounds or pattern repeats I knit on the first sock so I can make the second one the same size. Both socks grow together at the same time. Yarn: Lion Brand Mani-Pedi in colorway 604 Wristers Needles: US size 2 (or whatever size gets you gauge). Used 2 circular needles Gauge: 33 sts = 4’ in stockinette stitch Yardage: about 175 yards Diamond (mermaid) pattern: multiple of 8
