64 stitches. One dog. No repeats. The Tail-Chasing Dachshund Beanie is a fuzzy colorwork hat featuring one extremely long dachshund wrapping around the entire circumference and chasing its own tail. The length of the dachshund is determined by the circumference of your head. The sample is worked in the round with 5.0 mm needles using Xuefeier Meng Xiao Ai. Also work for similar short-pile fuzzy yarn or bulky yarns (50 g/ 70 m / 77 yd per ball). Only small amounts of the contrast colors are required, so this pattern is also a good way to use up leftover yarn. Finished size: approximately 58 cm/ 23 in circumference and 19 cm/ 7.5 in from the top edge of the folded brim to the crown, with an additional 5 cm/ 2 in ribbed brim when unfolded. Gauge: 11 sts x 21 rnds = 10x10 cm/ 4x4 in in stockinette stitch. The 64-stitch dachshund chart is worked once around the hat, it is not a repeating motif. Because some color sections are widely separated, using separate small balls of contrast yarn is recommended to avoid very long floats. The length can be customized by working more or fewer plain rounds before beginning the crown decreases.
