Backpack "Julia"

Pattern Notes This is a crochet backpack made from a granny square front panel, a single crochet side and bottom strips, a single crochet back panel, a rounded double crochet flap, drawstring closure, button-loop detail, crochet straps and a hanging loop. The backpack is constructed in separate pieces and then joined. The front panel is made from 9 granny squares arranged in a 3 × 3 grid. The sides and bottom of the backpack are worked as separate single crochet strips. The flap is worked in double crochet and shaped with decreases. The drawstring loops are crocheted directly onto the top edge. The drawstring is threaded through the loops. The straps and hanging loop are worked separately and sewn onto the back. This pattern is written in US crochet terms. Skill Level Confident beginner / intermediate. The stitches themselves are beginner-friendly, but the project includes several separate pieces and assembly. Materials Yarn: WAK The Cotton in Pearl Grey (3 balls of 100 g) and Coral Reef – Limited Edition (2-3 balls of 100 g). Both yarns are DK weight. You can use another cotton/cotton-blend yarn with a similar sturdy but soft structure, preferably in one multi-coloured version and one solid colour. Hook: 3 mm Tapestry needle Scissors 1 button (approximately 17-22mm) Stitch markers Measuring tape Gauge 10 cm by 10 cm in single crochet should give you 21 stitches and 23 rows. One finished granny square should measure approximately 9 cm × 9 cm and should have 5 rounds. Tested by 9 testers, see photos.
