Give me all your birds headband

The code is valid until this Friday (September 25th) This is a pattern great for transitional weather when you don't know if you should wear a hat or not. Headbands are basically half hats! My version shows the pigeon chart but there are 11 charts (and 9 birds) included in the pattern: - pigeon - crow - goose 1 and 2 - mallard duck - kingfisher - robin - seagull - owl 1 and 2 - swan **Construction** We start by provisionally casting on stitches for one end of the headband. Then we work in the round using colorwork charts as guides. At the end, we put the cast on stitches onto spare needle and we graft them with live stitches to create a seamless join. The main parts of the bird motifs are added using a technique called double sided intarsia (I first heard about it from Klara Verschuur (@studio.klara) and that’s the tutorial I’m linking in the pattern, I have not seen this technique anywhere else so far). The little details are added later, using duplicate stitching. Each bird is added one by one so you can play around with adding different birds to the same headband. **Gauge** 28 sts and 40 rounds per 10 cm in stockinette in the round (blocked). Suggested needle size: 3 mm but use whatever size necessary to reach gauge. You can also work this pattern off gauge, it's very easy and I give you more instructions in the pattern. **Sizes** This headband is designed to be worn with 3-5 cm/1.25-2 in of negative ease. Sizes 1, 2, (3, 4, 5) with finished length of 44, 48, (52, 54, 58) cm/17, 19, (20.5, 21, 23). To find your size, you should measure your head in the spot you want your headband to sit and subtract 3-5 cm/1.25-2 in from it. This measurement depends on your row gauge so if you’re off, your headband will be bigger or smaller. I recommend working up a gauge swatch and choosing the size accordingly or adjusting the chart based on the “Working off gauge” section. Width of the headband for all sizes measures 6.5 cm/2.6 in. **Yarn** For the main color you will need approximately 160, 170, (180, 190, 200) m / 175, 185, (197, 208, 219) yd of fingering/sport weight yarn. The birds use a very small amount of yarn (approx. 5m/5.5 yd each) so you can use scrap yarn for them. For best results, I recommend using the same yarn type for all colors. **Charts** Each chart is given in full version, intarsia version (with smaller details omitted) and both inverted versions (so that birds on the other side of the head don't show up upside down). I also provided links to stitch fiddle so you can easily use the progress tracker or edit the chart if you're working off gauge.
