Glåssen 2026 MKAL

Welcome to the inaugural Wöldten 2026 MKAL **GLÅSSEN** with Ona Wöldten. **Design** Glåssen is a scarf design that is worked flat, built from sixteen short-row shape units that are repeated in asymmetric intervals. Twelve of the shapes will form the background and are worked in the main color using garter stitch, while four are worked in the contrast color using stockinette stitch. **Inspiration** Glåssen draws on the visual language of the late 1960's: mod shapes, pop art minimalism, and bold graphic style. But where that era moved fast and loud, this design moves slowly and quietly. The same bold shapes are here, just softened. At its core, there is one main shape motif that recurs throughout the design at differing intervals, echoing back and repeating out of sequence, like lines of a free verse poem, or a phrase that gets picked up and reworked in improvisational jazz. Mirrored both horizontally and vertically, it then becomes four distinct units in the contrast color, set against a field of background shapes that fill the space around them. The recessed stockinette shapes give the piece a subtle texture as they move across the length, almost like a relief print embossed into fabric. The units build the way a poem does, one deliberate line at a time, until the pattern that felt abstract up close resolves into a beautiful work of art. **How it Works** The pattern unfolds over the course of 24 days. Each day you'll receive an update through Ravelry: a small section of the pattern to work on, a linked work of art, and sometimes a piece of music or a writing prompt to accompany you as you knit. By the end of the 24 days, you'll have knit a little over half of the finished design. On December 25th, the full pattern is sent out in its entirety, everything you need to complete the scarf, along with a bonus pattern variation written out in full with multiple options for knitting either version. There's no deadline. No pressure. Just slow progress, especially during a busy holiday season. If you fall behind, simply pick up where you left off. The MKAL is online, but not solitary.
