The Lucina socks are named for the Duke of Burgundy butterfly – Hamearis Lucina. Curves and smooth lines are synonymous with nature but I was looking at inspiration that was more geometric. Many butterflies display checkerboard-like patterns across their wings, and the Duke of Burgundy is a beautiful example. Its intricate markings inspired the design of the Lucina socks, combining textured stitches, garter stripes, and soothing stretches of stocking stitch. **PATTERN DETAILS** **Recommended Yarn** 4 ply/fingering weight yarn in a composition suitable for socks **Yarn Used** Biffsugar Yarns (100g; 365m \[400yds\]; 80% merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon; 4ply/fingering) colourway: Waterlily 270 \[310, 340, 420\]m 295 \[339, 372, 460\]yds **Size** 1 \[2, 3, 4\] To fit = 18 \[20.5, 23, 25.5\]cm / 7 \[8, 9, 10\]” foot circumference. Finished dimensions = 15 \[17, 20.5, 23\]cm / 6 \[7, 8¼, 9\]” circumference at foot. **Gauge** 36 stitches by 50 rounds = 10cm \[4”\] in stocking stitch.
