**If you make this pattern, I’d love to see projects or works in progress! Please tag me on Instagram @grantamknit so I can see your work and post it!** Your new favourite sock, on repeat — and it's free. These are the socks you knit again and again — a snug, bouncy rib that hugs the ankle and foot without a single cable chart or stitch counter needed after row one. The rib carries all the way from cuff to toe, so there's no plain stretch of stockinette leg to get through. On the foot, the sole switches to smooth stockinette while the rib keeps going across the instep, giving you visual interest on top and a comfortable, blister-free glide underneath. Built to fit, not just to look good. The rib pattern is charted separately for each size so the columns divide evenly across the instep — no awkward half-stitch at the side of your foot. Choose your size based on negative ease and the rib will do the rest, shaping snugly to your foot and ankle as you wear them in. What you'll knit: • A classic 2x2 ribbed cuff that opens into the featured rib pattern • A sturdy heel flap and gusset (worked flat, then picked back up in the round) for a heel that holds its shape wear after wear • A stockinette sole for smooth comfort underfoot • A neatly grafted Kitchener-stitch toe Good for: Confident beginners ready to try their first heel flap, and anyone who wants a reliable, well-tested sock pattern in regular rotation. Techniques used include long-tail cast-on, knitting in the round, picking up selvedge stitches, heel flap and gusset shaping, left- and right-leaning decreases, and Kitchener stitch — all clearly explained, so this is a great next-step pattern if you've knit a plain sock before. Sizes: 5 sizes from XS to XL (12.7–22.9 cm / 5–9 in sock circumference), fully graded throughout — rib, heel, and toe all adjust cleanly for every size. You'll need: • Approx. 183–365 m (200–400 yds) fingering-weight sock yarn (shown in Cascade Heritage, 75% merino / 25% polyamide) • 2.5 mm (US 1½) needles in your preferred format for small-circumference knitting • Stitch markers, tapestry needle The download includes: full written instructions for all 5 sizes, a complete abbreviations glossary, and pattern notes to guide you through construction — so you always know what's coming next and why. **Launch celebration: to celebrate this free pattern, all my other patterns are 10% off for the next two weeks!
