Good Bones Cardigan

During launch week, 15% of pattern sales goes to the Violence Prevention Center of Cook County and Grand Portage. Good Bones was inspired by some special, small batch, Minnesota yarn. The sheep who made this are solar grazed and treated so well at Get Bentz farm. The name comes from what we say about a house that’s been built right: she’s got good bones. This sweater has that same intention running through it from the sheep to the fiber to the finished garment. Testers described the Good Bones Cardigan as follows: "The pattern is interesting and intuitive. It’s a nice mix of reverse stockinette and more intricate cables in chunkier yarn so it knits up pretty quickly." "I liked that there was an option to use dk weight doubled or Aran weight yarn. The chart for the cable and lace are clear and easy to follow. I like the fit of the cardigan. The dropped sleeves also fit well." Good Bones is a dropped shoulder V-neck cardigan featuring four traveling cable and lace panels. The body is worked flat in one piece from the hem to the underarm, then separated for the fronts and back. Shoulders are joined using the Three Needle Bind Off. These calculations are based on final garment weight and the square footage of the sweater. The estimates will ensure that you have enough yarn to complete your project. Any changes to gauge, length or fit will affect the amount of yarn required to complete the project. **NEEDLES** You’ll need two sizes of circular needles, each in at least two lengths. First, knit a gauge swatch to determine the size needle that you need for the main body of the sweater. You’ll use a needle one size smaller for the ribbed collar, hem and cuffs. For the sample, I used: Ribbing: US Size 8 / 5 mm, 40" / 100 cm circular needle for the hem and ribbed buttonband, and a Magic Loop needle for the ribbed sleeve cuffs. Main: US Size 9 / 5.5 mm circular needles in two lengths, 32" / 80 cm or longer for the body and sleeves, 24" / 60 cm or longer for one front. *Always choose the needle size that you need in order to obtain the pattern’s gauge.
