I was inspired by our dog Cosmo and her favorite toy, a round yellow duck. Cosmo is the sweetest dog to people she knows and trusts. She will do anything to protect the people she loves. But this side of her can sometimes scare others. This sock design is for those of us who are full of whimsy and rage. It is a reminder not to take life too seriously or let feelings of helplessness paralyze us. We will channel our whimsy and rage to live life on our own terms.
For those of us in the US, I hope we channel our whimsy and political rage into our midterm voting.
**Construction Notes**
This sock starts with a ribbing pattern for the cuff, followed by a colorwork section for the leg. The eyes and beaks can be added using duplicate stitch after knitting. If you are comfortable working with multiple strands, you may instead carry all three or four yarns and incorporate these details directly into the colorwork, avoiding the need for duplicate stitching. The sock features a heel flap, heel turn, and gusset construction.

Tips for choosing colors for your socks: Compare the knife color with the duck’s main color and your sock’s main color to make sure the knife will show clearly against both backgrounds. It can be a bit tricky to find a good gray because the duck color is usually lighter, while the main color is usually darker. In the picture below, you will see a few examples of color that do and do not show well. Hopefully, this will help you choose colors for your sock.
