—- This pattern will be available soon (due to technical issues), bear with me — Mittens inspired by Östersund and Lake Storsjön. The design combines Östersundshjärtat (the logo for the town of Östersund) with Storsjöodjuret, a legendary lake monster first recorded in writing in 1635. A winter motif featuring two well-known symbols of Östersund. ------------------------------------------- This pattern is recommended for intermediate- to advanced-level knitters who have experience with stranded colourwork and working from charts. The mittens are worked from the bottom up in the round using double-pointed needles or the Magic Loop method. There are two cuff variations: a classic 2x2 ribbed cuff and a double-folded cuff with a picot edge. Both variations can be worked with or without stripes. Each mitten is then worked in stranded knitting with a two-colour motif across both the hand and thumb. The thumb is worked as an afterthought thumb, and the mittens are finished by grafting the remaining stitches closed using Kitchener stitch. Two different sizes are achieved through needle size and gauge. - The charts are divided into right and left mittens, both with dark and light main-colour backgrounds. - A chart with letters and numbers to personalise the mittens with initials, a name, or a year. - Tips and techniques section ------------------------------------------ SIZES: 1 (2) Total length: 23.5 (25) cm / 9.25 (9.85) in Hand width: 9.5 (10.5) cm / 3.75 (4.10) in Cuff length: 5 (5) cm / 2 (2) in GAUGE: 36 stitches x 38 rounds (34 stitches x 35 rounds) in stranded colourwork, knitted in the round, after blocking = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in NEEDLES: 2.0–2.5 mm (2.5–3.0 mm) / US 0–1.5 (1.5–2.5), or size needed to obtain gauge.
