AUGUSTA SOCKS
................................
Many years ago on a work trip, I found myself in a thoroughly emptied late-summer Paris.
And it was there that I spotted her: sipping a drink nonchalantly at that outdoor cafe that’s
beside the museum. Giant sun-hat, crisply pressed garments, and the glossiest of shoes. One
foot dangling beneath the cafe table. I caught a glimpse of pale mesh sock over tanned skin.
The delicate coolness communicated by that sock stuck with me. Might I even say that it
haunted me? Like a summer ghost whose likeness I’ve longed to summon from memory.
And now, I finally have. Meet the Augusta Socks.
It might seem like a meshy sock would be purely decorative in purpose. But as seasoned
urban summarites know, there is a surprisingly practical side to them - in that they serve as
a ‘barely there’ liner for dressy closed-toe shoes - and a non-synthetic one at that - preventing
chafing and rubbing, especially in the heat. If like me, you have struggled with wearing
footwear such as loafers, ballet flats, Mary-Janes, and the like, Augusta is the perfect sock
to finally make it happen.. whether in Paris, rural Ireland, or your own neck of the woods.

THE INTEGRATED HEEL METHOD
This pattern features the Integrated Heel method of construction, which looks similar to the traditional heel flap ad gusset, but is worked mainly in the round. The Juniveer Sock pattern instructions are sufficient to work the Integrated Heel if you are new to this method.
However, if you are interested in a more in-depth guide to the Integrated Heel, a ‘vanilla sock’ pattern introducing this method is available here:
