Tradition with a Twist

This is the knit version of the 2026 SoCal Fiber Fair beanie. Tradition…with a bit of a twist. This year’s design offers up a bit of traditional Fair Isle inspiration (a nod to our Scottish heritage) with a heavy dose of playful stripes and a fun zig-zag . The stranded knitting works up quickly and is easy enough for beginners. Have fun using your favorite colors: traditional, super bright, subtle, or funky. It’s up to you! Maybe you have a tradition of using the same colors for each SCFF beanie. How fun! You can even add your own twist by using two or three colors instead of four. Size One size fits an average adult size head. (Approx. 19" - 22") Materials (as shown in photo): Aly Bee Workshop Merino Worsted in the following colors A: Aquarium (50 g/ 100yd./ 91 m)* B: Mushroom (15 g/ 32 yd./29 m) C: PSL (25 g/ 54 yd./ 39 m) D: Cobweb (20g/ 40 yd./ 37 m) *This amount is enough for a fold-over ribbing as shown. For a 1 ½’ – 2” ribbing, reduce amount to (25 g/ 50 yd./ 45 m) Or any other worsted weight yarn (#4) in four colors. US size 5 (3.75mm) 16" circular knitting needles US size 7 (4.5 mm) 16" circular knitting needles US size 7 (4.5mm) Double pointed needles (DPNs) (or size needed to obtain gauge) 3 stitch marker markers (two of one color and one of another color) Tapestry needle for weaving in ends Gauge: With larger needles, approx. 9 ½ stitches = 2" in stranded stockinette stitch.
