Myrica Hat

The Myrica Hat features round, berry-like motifs reminiscent of the clustered fruits of the bayberry plant. Flowing cables give a lively rhythm to this cozy, sculptural design. Knit from brim to crown in the round in aran weight yarn, Myrica is a fast and enjoyable project. Cable pattern quickly becomes intuitive and wide fold-over ribbing adds a perfect amount of warmth. Instructions are both charted and written out. **Size** - Circumference, unstretched: 40 (47) (53) (60)cm (15¾ (18½) (21) (23½)in) - Height, with the brim folded (adjustable): 20 (22.5) (25) (25)cm (8 (9) (9¾) (9¾)in) - Suggested negative ease: 5–10cm (2–4in) **Yarn** - Aran/heavy worsted weight, 155 (175) (190) (210)m (170 (190) (210) (230)yds) - Sample yarn: Kelbourne Woolens Lucky Tweed (100% Merino wool), aran, 100g (3½oz), 190m (210yds), in Cream - The pattern is best suited to solid or tonal colorways **Needles** - 4mm (US 6) circular needles on 40cm (16in) cable for the ribbing - 5mm (US 8) circular needles on 40cm (16in) cable for the main body of the hat, and DPNs for the crown **Gauge** - 24 sts and 30 rows measures 10 x 10cm (4 x 4in) over 2x2 rib, using smaller needles, after blocking - 24 sts and 25 rows measure 10 x 10cm (4 x 4in) over pattern, using larger needles, after blocking - Swatch to determine the needle size that achieves the correct gauge **Construction** - The hat is worked from the bottom up in the round. - The brim is knit in 2x2 rib and folded over for extra warmth. You can choose to make it narrow by choosing not to work the fold. - The body of the hat features a cabled panel. Integrated decreases help the pattern flow seamlessly into the crown.
