Fashion Doll Dresses and Cardigans

I love making doll clothes - they’re quick, fun, and the finished outfits make great gifts for doll lovers. I designed these dresses and cardigans to fit Barbie dolls in original and modern sizes, but they would work for other 11”-12” fashion dolls with similar proportions. Both sweaters are knit flat and seamed at the sides; the neckline is made by binding off stitches on one row and casting on the next. I made them drop-shoulder for simplicity, with the sleeves formed by picking up stitches on either side of the neckline. The Stockinette stitch cardigan has 3/4 sleeves and ribbed borders; the lace variation has short sleeves and seed stitch borders. There are also two variations of dresses - a simple Stockinette stitch variation and a ribbed one with a mock cable pattern. Each piece fits every Barbie body type - Original, Petite, Tall, and Curvy. You can use any kind of light or DK weight yarn, but my favorite for these is Lion Brand Bonbons; one mini skein is enough for a cardigan, and a dress takes about one and a half mini skeins.
